According to HANA Human Rights Organization, Sahar Mahdi, a 32-year-old citizen from Saqqez, was released from Saqqez Prison on Saturday, June 20, 2026, after 64 days in detention, upon posting bail.
According to information received, Intelligence Office agents went to her family home on April 16, 2026, and arrested her without presenting any judicial warrant or documentation. The agents also confiscated her mobile phone and those of several family members, taking them away.
Following the completion of her interrogation, Ms. Mahdi was transferred to Saqqez Prison, where she remained in a state of uncertainty until her release. Although the possibility of her release on bail had been raised earlier, its implementation was delayed until today, extending her detention to 64 days.
HANA Human Rights Organization regards the continuation of Sahar Mahdi’s detention, despite the availability of bail as an option for her release, as inconsistent with the principles of fair trial and the right to personal liberty.
The arrest of citizens without legal documentation and their prolonged detention in a state of uncertainty are troubling examples of violations of citizens’ fundamental rights.
HANA calls for full compliance with legal procedures and an end to practices that put individuals’ judicial security and basic rights at risk.
