According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, the remnants of the collapsed governmental security structure in Kurdish cities, including Baneh and Saqqez, have in recent days attempted to coerce and entice religious leaders and local notables into cooperation. According to Hana’s information, a number of security personnel, whose organizational affiliations remain unclear, approached Mamostās and trusted local figures, requesting that they participate in “city protection” initiatives in exchange for weapons.
Hana sources stated that this request was made due to the current security situation and the potential presence of Peshmerga forces in Kurdish cities. These individuals were asked to “defend the city and protect the faith” against the Peshmerga. However, reports indicate that religious leaders and local notables have firmly rejected these demands, emphasizing that they will under no circumstances engage in military confrontation against their fellow speakers and compatriots or cooperate with such initiatives.
