According to information received by HANA Human Rights Organization, Saeed Baghcheghi, a 16-year-old Kurdish child from Bojnurd who was arrested during the January 2026 protests, has been sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to 28 months in ta’zir imprisonment.
The verdict was communicated to him roughly a month ago, and he has been ordered to report to prison within the coming days to begin serving his sentence, according to information received.
Saeed Baghcheghi was arrested by security forces on January 9, 2026, and released on bail after roughly a month in pretrial detention. Throughout the interrogation and trial process, he was denied access to a lawyer, a child facing every stage of it alone.
Sentencing a child to prison, while denying him access to legal counsel at every stage of the proceedings, runs against the principles governing juvenile justice and the Islamic Republic of Iran’s international obligations to protect children’s rights.
