According to information received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Mahmoud Shaddel, a 30-year-old Kurdish citizen from Ashkhaneh in North Khorasan province and a national motorcycle racing champion, has been sentenced to three years in prison by Branch 2 of the Bojnourd Revolutionary Court.
Based on information reaching Hana, this citizen was arrested by security forces without a judicial warrant approximately 10 days after the protests of January 8 and 9, 2026, and transferred to a security detention center. According to informed sources, agents also shot at his vehicle during the arrest. During his detention, Mahmoud Shaddel was subjected to torture; security agents attempted to coerce him into accepting the alleged charges by pulling out his toenails, but he refused to make a forced confession. He was temporarily released on bail after two weeks in detention.
According to informed sources, Branch 2 of the Bojnourd Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Seyed Jafar Hashemi, sentenced this citizen to three years in prison on charges of “propaganda against the system” and “assembly and collusion against national security.” The issued sentence was verbally communicated to him on July 11, 2026. Furthermore, Mahmoud Shaddel was deprived of the right to access a lawyer, contact his family, and have family visitations throughout all stages of his detention and judicial proceedings, and he was warned that appealing the verdict would result in a harsher punishment.
