Ali Zolfi Photographer and Former Political Prisoner Arrested in Bukan

According to reports received by HANA Human Rights Organization, on the morning of Sunday, June 28, 2026, Ali Zolfi, a photographer and citizen from Bukan, was arrested by Intelligence Office agents at his photography studio and transferred to an undisclosed location, without any judicial warrant being presented or served.

At the time of this report, no official information has been released regarding his whereabouts, the reasons for his arrest, any possible charges, or the authority responsible for his detention. Reports also indicate that at the time of his arrest, agents seized and drove away his personal vehicle without any legal order or authorization.

Ali Zolfi had previously been arrested by security forces in January 2021. According to available information, agents entered his home at that time without a judicial warrant, damaged part of the doors and windows, and transferred him to one of the security detention facilities in Urmia. Throughout his detention he was denied access to a lawyer, contact with his family, and visitation rights.
After being transferred to Bukan Prison, he was temporarily released on bail and was subsequently sentenced by Branch 101 of Bukan Criminal Court to four months and ten days in ta’zir imprisonment on charges of “propaganda against the state.” He was released on December 16, 2021, upon completion of his sentence.
