According to information received by Hana, on the evening of September 11, 2026, a 19 year old man was subjected to a group attack by several individuals at the Family Land recreational complex in Sanandaj and was transferred to a hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
Local sources have identified the attackers as individuals affiliated with Salafi groups and have named a person known as Abu Mohammad, known as Shahram, as one of the individuals involved in this attack. Thus far, no precise information has been provided to Hana regarding the motive for the attack or the physical condition of the injured individual.
This incident took place at a time when numerous reports have been published over the past years regarding the activities of fundamentalist and Salafi Jihadi groups in Sanandaj and other regions of Kurdistan. Hana has previously expressed concern regarding the manner in which the security agencies of the Islamic Republic respond to these groups.
While the security agencies of the Islamic Republic subject political activities opposing or criticizing the government to extensive restrictions, arrests, and severe crackdowns, local reports and information indicate that the activities of certain fundamentalist and Salafi groups have not faced a similar level of security response, despite their known presence and activities.
