According to information received by Hana from its own sources, in the early hours of Saturday, September 12, 2026, IRGC “jash” forces in Piranshahr, in several simultaneous actions, attacked the homes of relatives of a number of political activists living outside Iran. In these attacks, several family members, including women, children, and elderly individuals, were beaten, and serious damage was caused to their homes and property.
One of the homes attacked was that of the elderly parents of Aram Gerdi. According to information documented by Hana, the attacking forces, after entering the home, severely beat his parents, and the severity of their injuries was such that they had to seek medical treatment at a medical center. In the course of the attack, household belongings were destroyed, doors, windows, and car windows were broken, and part of the building was set on fire.
In a separate attack, the home of the family of Mohammad Baldar’s brother was targeted. Members of this family were likewise beaten, and a number of them were hospitalized due to their injuries. Hana’s information also indicates extensive destruction of belongings and serious damage to the interior of the home.
Hana has received a set of images relating to the aftermath of these attacks, showing injuries to the head and face of some of the victims, the destruction of household belongings, broken doors and windows, damage to vehicles, and traces of fire in part of one of the buildings.
What occurred in these attacks is not merely a disproportionate use of force. Armed entry into people’s homes, the beating of family members who are not themselves the subject of any announced charge or judicial order, the destruction of property, and the burning of a home constitute a set of actions that fall outside the bounds of the law and cannot be justified even under the minimal guarantees set out in the laws of the Islamic Republic. The inviolability of a person’s life, property, and home, and the prohibition on punishing individuals without a judgment and due legal process, are principles that the Islamic Republic’s own domestic laws explicitly recognize.
In these cases, the violence was directed specifically at the relatives of political activists living outside the country. The exertion of pressure on parents, women, and children on account of the political activity of one member of the family has no legal basis whatsoever, and effectively turns the family into a means of punishing, threatening, and pressuring another individual. This practice is not a security measure, but an arbitrary use of power against individuals who bear no responsibility for the political activity of their relatives.
Responsibility for these actions is not confined to the forces present at the scene. The carrying out of such an operation by IRGC “jash” forces directly raises the responsibility of the commanders and officials under whose orders and authority these forces operate. Allowing the perpetrators and those who ordered such attacks to remain immune from accountability would mean creating the conditions for the recurrence of violence against the families of political activists.
In condemning these attacks, Hana calls for an immediate end to assaults on the families of political activists, for the safety of the victims to be ensured, for medical records and documentation of the damages to be preserved, for physical and material losses to be compensated, and for the perpetrators, those who ordered these actions, and the officials responsible for them to be held accountable.
