Behzad Rasouli a Citizen of Saqqez Sentenced to 8 Years of Ta’zir Imprisonment

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Behzad Rasouli, a citizen from Saqqez, has been sentenced to 8 years of Ta’zir (discretionary) imprisonment by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of this city, presided over by Judge Javad Ghaffari, on the charge of “membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan.” Based on this report, Mr. Rasouli is currently serving his sentence in Saqqez Central Prison.

Behzad Rasouli, 43, was arrested by security forces on July 26, 2025, while traveling to Isfahan to visit his child, following his return to Iran from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq. After his arrest, he was transferred to the Saqqez Intelligence Department detention center and, after approximately three months of interrogation and legal uncertainty, was moved to the city’s central prison.

Mr. Rasouli had previously gone on a hunger strike to protest his unjust detention and legal status. This strike, which lasted approximately 70 days, led to a severe deterioration of his physical condition and necessitated his emergency transfer to a medical facility outside the prison.
As of the time of this report, no further details regarding the specifics of the judicial proceedings or the latest state of this political prisoner’s health following his prolonged hunger strike are available.
