Hana’s Detailed Report on Clashes Between Government Forces and People During Nowruz Celebrations in Oshnavieh

According to information received by Hana, on Friday, March 14, 2025, following the violent intervention and attempted suppression of Nowruz celebrations in Qalatok Forest Park (a suburb of Oshnavieh), local residents defended themselves and managed to disarm one of the government officers.

Hana’s investigations confirm that during these clashes, an individual named Omid Kouri, son of Amir, was injured. Due to the severity of his wounds, he was transferred to a hospital in Orumiyeh for medical treatment.

Additionally, in the village of Tachinavi (a district of Oshnavieh), while people were celebrating Nowruz, Colonel Ali Tavakoli, the commander of Oshnavieh’s law enforcement forces, was personally recording videos of attendees—without wearing his military uniform—to identify individuals. Upon realizing this, the crowd confronted him, preventing him from continuing. According to eyewitnesses, after being reprimanded by the people, he quickly fled the scene.

Hana Human Rights Organization emphasizes that the right to celebrate and enjoy Nowruz is a fundamental cultural right recognized under international human rights law. The government, based on its international commitments, has no right to use force against these cultural freedoms.
