Wave of Arrests Continues in Mahabad as Four More Citizens Detained by Security Forces

HANA Human Rights Organization has learned that at least four citizens from Mahabad were arrested by security forces and taken to undisclosed locations over July 6 and 7, 2026.

According to information received, Saber Enayati, 35, from Mahabad, was arrested by security forces on Monday, July 6. The following day, Tuesday, July 7, security forces arrested three more Mahabad residents: Kamal Piranpour, 43, Mostafa Ebrahimi, 40, and Sardar Ostad Ahmadi.

At the time of this report, nothing is known about why these four men were arrested, which agency is holding them, where they are being kept, or their current condition. Their families have likewise received no official word about their status or whereabouts.

Holding people incommunicado, without disclosing any charges and without giving families even basic information, raises the risk of violating detainees’ fundamental rights. Under international standards, anyone who is arrested must be told the reason for their detention, given access to a lawyer, and have their family informed of where they are being held.

HANA Human Rights Organization is calling for the immediate disclosure of these four men’s status, for their families to be informed, for legal safeguards to be upheld throughout their detention, and for them to be given access to legal counsel.
