Sarableh: Nour al-Din Chelangar Sentenced to 15 Months of Ta’zir Imprisonment and a Fine

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Nour al-Din Chelangar, 30, a resident of Sarableh in illam Province, has been sentenced by the judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to a total of 15 months of Ta’zir imprisonment and a fine of 30 million tomans in connection with a judicial case brought against him following the January 2026 protests.

According to information received by Hana, in late October 2026, Branch 101 of the Chardavol Criminal Court Two, presided over by Judge Mohammad Sarbaz Jamshid, sentenced Chelangar to one year of Ta’zir imprisonment on the charge of “insulting religious sanctities.” He was also sentenced to three months of Ta’zir imprisonment and a fine of 30 million tomans on additional charges, including “acting against national security.”

On January 26, 2026, Chelangar was arrested by security forces without the presentation of a judicial warrant and transferred to the illam Intelligence Department detention facility, where he was interrogated for eight days.

Following the completion of interrogations, he was transferred to illam Central Prison. After spending one month and eight days in detention, he was temporarily released on bail of four billion tomans pending the completion of judicial proceedings.

The sentence was issued despite the fact that Chelangar’s initial arrest was carried out without a judicial warrant. Reports have also emerged alleging that he was subjected to torture and physical mistreatment during detention. These allegations, in light of fair trial standards and the absolute prohibition of torture, require an independent investigation and accountability on the part of the responsible authorities.
