According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, May 7, 2026, a citizen identified as “Peyman Rahmanpour,” a native of Khorkhoreh village in Saqqez County, lost his life due to the explosion of a landmine remaining from the war era.
An informed source stated that the incident occurred in the highlands surrounding Khorkhoreh village, where the severity of the injuries sustained from the blast led to his death. The source added that his body has been transferred to the Saqqez Forensic Medical Office for legal proceedings.
It is noted that landmines and unexploded ordnance left over from the war continue to threaten the lives of residents in the border and mountainous regions of Kurdistan. Every year, dozens of civilians—including Kolbars, farmers, and livestock herders—fall victim to these explosions.
Expressing deep concern over the recurrence of such incidents, the Hana Human Rights Organization reiterates the urgent need for the immediate demining of contaminated areas and the implementation of necessary measures to protect civilian lives.
