According to information received by the Hana Organization for Human Rights, 27 days after the detention of Maryam Moradian and Sirous Hamidi, from the village of Zafarabad, in Divandareh County, no clear information is yet available regarding their place of detention, their physical and psychological condition, or the conditions of their confinement.
Maryam Moradian and Sirous Hamidi were detained, together with their 16 year old child, Kurdia Hamidi, by security forces on August 14, 2026, without presentation of a judicial warrant, and were transferred to an undisclosed location. Kurdia Hamidi was released after four days of detention, but her parents remain in detention.
Despite repeated efforts by the family, security and judicial authorities have, to date, provided no specific information to the family regarding the place of detention of these two citizens. Likewise, according to available information, Maryam Moradian and Sirous Hamidi have been denied contact and visitation with their family and access to legal counsel throughout their detention. As of the time of this report’s preparation, the reasons for their detention and the possible charges against them have also not been officially and clearly announced.
The Hana Organization for Human Rights expresses deep concern over the continuation of their detention under conditions of severed contact with their family, denial of access to legal counsel, and the failure to disclose their place of detention. The prolonged detention of individuals under such conditions places them in a severely vulnerable position and increases the risk of pressure being applied during interrogation, mistreatment, and violations of their fundamental rights.
Hana emphasizes that the Divandareh Prosecutor, as the judicial authority responsible for overseeing the lawfulness of the detention and respect for the rights of detainees, and the Director General of Intelligence for Kurdistan Province, in relation to the conduct of the security forces under his command and the conditions of these two citizens’ confinement, bear direct responsibility for guaranteeing their health, safety, and legal rights.
Hana accordingly states that, should any physical or psychological harm, mistreatment, torture, pressure to extract a confession, or any assault on the life or health of Maryam Moradian and Sirous Hamidi occur during their detention, the responsible judicial and security authorities, including the Divandareh Prosecutor and the Director General of Intelligence for Kurdistan Province, must be held accountable for the measures taken, the conditions of confinement, and the manner in which these two citizens’ rights have been respected.
Hana calls for the immediate disclosure of the place of detention and the condition of Maryam Moradian and Sirous Hamidi, for the provision of contact and visitation with their family, and for guaranteed prompt and effective access to counsel of their choosing. Should any charges exist, the responsible authorities are further obligated to officially and clearly announce the legal basis for the continued detention and the charges attributed to them.
The continued lack of information regarding the fate and whereabouts of these two citizens after 27 days has heightened Hana’s serious concern for their health and safety and for respect for the most basic guarantees afforded to detained persons.
