According to information received by the Hana Organization for Human Rights, on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, security forces raided the residence of Mojtaba Babakhani, a citizen from the township of Eslamieh, in Mehran County, illam Province, in order to detain him. This action led to a confrontation and an explosion at the scene.
According to Hana’s informed sources, after entering the premises, security forces detained Mojtaba Babakhani, and, in the course of transferring him to a security forces vehicle, a grenade explosion occurred. According to preliminary information, Mojtaba Babakhani and two members of the security forces were killed in this explosion, and a number of other agents were wounded. Hana’s sources have reported that the explosion occurred during Mojtaba Babakhani’s transfer and as a result of an action on his part; however, Hana has not, to date, been able to independently verify all the details concerning how the explosion occurred.
Following this incident, security forces placed the Babakhani family home and the surrounding area under siege. According to the most recent information received by Hana, this situation continued through Wednesday, September 9, 2026, and Shoja Babakhani, Mojtaba Babakhani’s brother, also clashed with security forces during their presence at the scene.
As of the time of this report’s preparation, no reliable information is available regarding the condition, whereabouts, or fate of Shoja Babakhani.
