According to information received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Foad (Sirous) Fathi, a labor activist from Sanandaj and resident of Tehran, was released from Evin prison on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, after completing his four year sentence.
This labor activist had previously been arrested by security forces and transferred to Evin prison to serve his sentence following interrogation and judicial proceedings. He has also faced arrest and judicial prosecution in recent years in connection with his labor and civil activities.
On Saturday, December 2, 2023, Foad (Sirous) Fathi was sentenced to a four year prison term by Branch 26 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court. The charges brought against him in this case were stated as membership in groups opposing the regime and acting against national security.
In addition to the prison sentence, the court had also sentenced him to supplementary punishments including a two year ban on leaving the country, a two year ban on membership in political and social groups and organizations, and a two year ban on residing in Tehran and its suburbs.
During his imprisonment, a request for the conditional release of Foad Fathi in February 2025 was opposed and rejected by the judicial authorities, despite his having served more than one third of his sentence. Furthermore, on February 14, 2026, he went on a hunger strike and refused to take his prescribed medications in protest against what he described as targeted pressure and harassment against political prisoners. Given his history of lung infection, this action raised concerns regarding his health condition in prison.
