According to reports received by Hana Human Rights Organization, Mahdi Pakmehr, a Kurdish artist from Bojnurd and one of the individuals injured during the nationwide protests of (Dey 1404) January 2026، has been sentenced in two separate cases by the Criminal Court and the Revolutionary Court of Bojnurd to a total of six years’ imprisonment and 70 lashes.
Based on the information obtained, Mr. Pakmehr was recently sentenced by the Criminal Court of Bojnurd to one year and three months of discretionary imprisonment (ta’zir) and 70 lashes. In a separate case, the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Bojnurd sentenced him to five years’ imprisonment. According to reports, one year of the sentence issued by the Revolutionary Court has been suspended. The verdicts have reportedly been communicated to him verbally.
Mahdi Pakmehr was arrested on (19 Dey 1404) January 9, 2026, along with several employees of his café, by security forces and spent approximately two months in detention. Prior to his arrest, he had been injured during the nationwide protests after being struck in the leg by pellet gun fire.
According to informed sources, Mr. Pakmehr, a cultural and political activist from Bojnurd, has previously been subjected to arrest and security-related pressure. Sources close to the case have also stated that existing evidence and available images do not appear to be consistent with some of the allegations made against him.
