According to information received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Kianoush Cheraghi, a 47 year old resident of Dehloran and one of those arrested in connection with the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising, has been on hunger strike at Kerman Prison since Sunday, September 20, 2026.
The hunger strike was launched in protest against a five year prison sentence issued by Branch 8 of the illam Province Court of Appeals. According to the information received, Cheraghi began refusing food in protest against the sentence and the judicial proceedings in his case.
Kianoush Cheraghi has been held in prison since June 24, 2025, and during this period has been held in several prisons in illam Province, including illam Central Prison and Mahpareh Prison in Darreh Shahr. On February 10, 2026, he was transferred from Mahpareh Prison in Darreh Shahr to Kerman Prison, where he has remained detained since.
If prolonged, a hunger strike can pose serious risks to a prisoner’s physical health. Prison authorities are required to respect the prisoner’s informed decision while continuously monitoring his health medically and ensuring unhindered access to medical care.
