The Hana Human Rights Organization reports that more than two weeks after the arrest of Elham (Soheila) Alizadeh, a 30 year old woman from Mahabad, there is still no information available regarding her place of detention, health condition, or legal status.
According to information received by Hana, her family has had no contact or visits with her since her arrest, and repeated efforts to obtain information from security agencies in Mahabad, Orumiyeh, Miandoab, and Naqadeh have been unsuccessful. No institution has so far officially acknowledged responsibility for holding her.
Elham Alizadeh was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence forces at her family home in Mahabad on September 6, 2026. According to reports received, she was transferred to Orumiyeh for interrogation.
Hana strongly condemns the continuation of this situation and the deprivation of her family’s right to know the fate and whereabouts of a detained person, and expresses serious concern over Elham Alizadeh’s health and safety.
Hana holds the Prosecutor of West Azerbaijan Province and the Director General of Intelligence of the province responsible for providing answers regarding Elham Alizadeh’s condition and place of detention. It emphasizes that the authorities and institution holding her are responsible for protecting her life, physical and psychological health, and safety throughout her detention. Any harm suffered by her while in detention would require accountability from the responsible authorities.
Hana calls for the immediate disclosure of Elham Alizadeh’s place of detention and health condition, as well as ensuring her access to contact with her family and to a lawyer.
