Awat Sadeghnia is Temporary Released on 10 Billion Toman Bail After 83 Days of Detention in Mahabad Prison

On Wednesday, June 10, 2026 (20 Khordad 1405), Awat Sadeghnia (known as Sargoli), a Kurdish citizen from Mahabad County, was temporarily released from prison after enduring 83 days of arbitrary detention, upon posting a heavy bail of 10 billion tomans.

According to reports received by Hana Human Rights Organization, the bail amount set for Mr. Sadeghnia’s temporary release was 10 billion tomans. Mr. Sadeghnia, a resident of Kuseh Kahriz village near Mahabad, was arrested on March 19, 2026 (29 Esfand 1404), when security forces raided his home and detained him without presenting a judicial warrant.

Informed sources emphasize that throughout the 83 days of detention and interrogation in security detention facilities, this Kurdish citizen was deprived of the most basic rights afforded to detainees. During this period, he remained in a state of legal uncertainty and was denied access to a lawyer of his choosing, in-person family visits, and even telephone contact with his family. Following the completion of interrogations by security agencies, Mr. Sadeghnia was transferred to Mahabad Central Prison pending further judicial proceedings.

As of the time of publication of this report, despite persistent inquiries by his family, the judicial and security authorities in Mahabad have provided no clarification regarding the reasons for his arrest or the charges allegedly brought against him.

Hana Human Rights Organization stresses that the imposition of excessively high bail amounts and the prolonged detention of individuals without formal notification of charges constitute clear violations of fundamental rights and serve as a means of exerting pressure on Kurdish activists and citizens.
