According to reports received by HANA Human Rights Organization, on the evening of Wednesday, July 1, 2026, during a clash between a group of individuals known as “jash” and a number of young people in Mahabad, a young man named Sayed Siavash Alak was killed and four others were seriously wounded.
According to information received, the clash took place near a branch of Bank Tejarat in Mahabad. Reports indicate that the attackers used bladed weapons against the young men. According to initial information, wearing traditional Kurdish clothing along with a “jamana” headscarf was cited as one of the reasons the clash broke out. HANA Human Rights Organization is continuing to independently verify the circumstances, motives, and other details surrounding this incident.
Following the incident, a number of citizens gathered outside Mahabad Hospital. Information received also indicates that Sayed Siavash Alak’s body was handed over to his family only after they were summoned by security agencies, made to sign undertakings, and placed under pressure. Reports further indicate that despite the deployment of security forces and restrictions imposed on some streets in the city, his funeral was held with a large turnout of citizens in attendance.
