Abbas Akbari Feyzabadi a Detainee of the January Protests Executed

The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on the morning of Monday, May 25, 2026, the death sentence of Abbas Akbari Feyzabadi, a detainee of the January 2026 protests, was carried out in one of the prisons of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The Mizan News Agency, affiliated with the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, published a report announcing that this citizen, a resident of Nain in Isfahan province, had previously been sentenced to death by the judicial system on charges including “Moharebeh” (enmity against God), “intentional destruction of public property,” “assembly and collusion against national security,” and shooting at government forces.

According to this report, no independent information has been published regarding the process of arrest, interrogation stages, and judicial proceedings of Abbas Akbari’s case. The details regarding how the trial sessions were conducted, the evidence presented against him, and his access to an independent lawyer remain shrouded in ambiguity.

According to received information, the family of Abbas Akbari had refrained from publicly reporting on the status of his case and the judicial process over the past few months due to pressure and threats from security agencies.
Hana emphasizes that the issuance and execution of death sentences in cases related to nationwide protests constitute a blatant violation of the right to life and contradict the fundamental principles of a fair trial. Depriving the accused of effective and continuous access to an independent lawyer at all stages of the proceedings and the lack of transparency in the trial process are examples of violations of the defendant’s fundamental rights and contradict international human rights standards.

Hana also recalls that the execution of death sentences in political and security cases, in the absence of necessary guarantees for independent and fair adjudication, stands in serious conflict with the international obligations of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the provisions of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
