According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Arshia Gheysar-Beigi, a resident of Sarableh in illam Province, was arrested on May 5, 2026, during a raid by security forces. The arrest was carried out without the presentation of a judicial warrant, and he was subsequently transferred to an undisclosed location.
Based on information obtained by Hana, the severity of the violence used during the arrest was so extreme that it resulted in fractures to his jaw, nose, and teeth. Security forces also attempted to arrest his brother, Arashk Gheysar-Beigi, at the same time, but were unsuccessful.
An informed source told the Hana Human Rights Organization that after 12 days of detention, Arshia Gheysar-Beigi continues to be held in solitary confinement. Despite his severe injuries, he has been completely denied access to medical treatment and healthcare.
According to the report, he is being subjected to physical torture and intense pressure by security officials aimed at extracting forced confessions. Throughout his detention, he has been denied the right to legal counsel, phone calls, and family visits.
Just one day after his arrest, on May 6, 2026, the Investigative Branch of the Public and Revolutionary Court of Chardavol County signed by Karim Omidi, acting magistrate and substitute investigator issued a two-month temporary detention order for him.
In the text of the indictment, which relies heavily on confessions extracted under duress, Mr. Gheysar-Beigi faces severe charges including “Moharebeh” (enmity against God), “Efsad-e Fel-Arz” (corruption on Earth), “display of power with a weapon,” “unauthorized purchase, possession, and carrying of combat ammunition,” and “unauthorized shooting.” These charges carry the potential penalty of execution under the laws of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
This stands in stark contrast to claims made by the judicial authority in the detention order, which alleges that the defendant’s statements were recorded in a state of “full health and well-being” and that his right to appeal the temporary detention was properly communicated. This claim directly contradicts the documented evidence of physical torture, multiple fractures, and the ongoing psychological and physical pressure inflicted upon him during his interrogation.
Expressing deep concern over the imminent threat to his life and the risk of a death sentence based on forced confessions, the Hana Human Rights Organization emphasizes that keeping Arshia Gheysar-Beigi in solitary confinement, denying him access to medical services and a lawyer, and extracting confessions under torture constitute a flagrant violation of the fundamental principles of a fair trial. Such actions violate the international obligations of the Islamic Republic of Iran under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Convention Against Torture. Hana calls for immediate intervention by international human rights bodies to independently monitor his situation, halt all forms of torture, and stop any judicial proceedings built upon forced confessions.
