Hana: On the evening of Monday, May 11, 2026, security forces in the city of Bukan raided the home of Asti Mohammadi, a 67-year-old citizen and the mother of two Kurdish political activists, arresting her and transferring her to an undisclosed location.
According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, this arrest was carried out without a judicial warrant and outside of legal procedures. To date, no official or reliable information has been released regarding her whereabouts, physical condition, access to medication and medical care, or any potential charges against her.
Based on received information, Asti Mohammadi suffers from underlying health conditions and requires continuous medical care and daily medication. The continued lack of information regarding the status of this elderly woman and her potential deprivation of access to medical services has raised serious concerns for her health and safety.
The arrest of relatives and family members of political activists without clear charges, judicial documentation, and outside the legal framework violates the principle of individual criminal responsibility under both domestic law and international human rights standards. It also infringes upon the right to liberty, personal security, and protection against arbitrary detention. In recent years, human rights organizations have repeatedly warned against the systemic pressure placed on the families of civil and political activists, which is aimed at intimidation, exerting psychological pressure, and restricting peaceful activities.
Furthermore, according to the principles of a fair trial and fundamental human rights standards, depriving detainees especially the elderly and those with underlying health conditions of access to medical care, family contact, and legal rights can constitute inhumane treatment and a grave violation of their fundamental rights.
