Hana: On Wednesday, June 30, 2021, Salar and Saman Ghazali, two citizens of Mahabad, were released from Mahabad prison.
Saman Ghazali is a final year student of Master of Sociology at Boroujerd University and Salar Ghazali is a graduate of Razi University of Kermanshah. The two brothers were tried by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Mahabad, headed by Judge Javad Gholami, on charges of "acting against national security, membership in an opposition party, and propaganda against the regime." They were sentenced to 3 years and 6 month prison, but were reduced to two years in prison after surrendering.
The two Kurdish citizens were arrested by government security forces on September 16, 2020, and transferred to the Iranian Intelligence Agency's detention center in Uromiah.
These citizens were transferred to the Islamic Republic Prison in Mahabad after 75 days of interrogation. The two brothers were denied the right to a lawyer and family visits during their detention.
A hearing on the allegations was held in mid-December last year in the First Branch of the Government Revolutionary Court in Mahabad.
