Orumiyeh: Execution of a Kurdish citizen

Hana: On the morning of Sunday, March 14, 2021, a Kurdish citizen from Bokan was executed in Orumiyeh Prison.

Naser Valizada, 33, who was executed this morning, was arrested six years ago on murder charges.

Iran is one of the countries where the death penalty is carried out, but due to the lack of permission for free-conducted outlets and human rights organizations, there are no precise statistics on this issue, but according to official statistics, Iran itself has the highest number of executions in the world after China and has the highest number of executions in the world compared to its population.

It should be noted that on November 17, 2020, 120 UN member states voted yes to a resolution in the Third Committee of the General Assembly calling for a moratorium on the death penalty.

Iran has voted "no" to a UN resolution to abolish the execution. With the exception of Iran, seven other countries have abstained.

In the same case, Phil Robertson, Asia vice president of Human Rights Watch, said, "It is no surprise that governments that voted "no" to the moratorium on the death penalty are among the most serious human rights violators in the world. "The fact that 11 Asia-Pacific governments voted no to the UN resolution, and many of them are still executing, shows that the region still has a long way to go to achieve a system of justice that respects human rights."

According to Robertson, countries that voted for the resolution should immediately take the necessary measures to abolish the death penalty and press the 39 countries that oppose the abolition of the death penalty
