Mansour Karbalaei Transferred to Bukan Prison to Serve 10-Year One-Day Sentence

According to information received by the Hana Organization for Human Rights, Mansour Karbalaei, a 30 year old citizen, son of Mohammad and from the village of Sarchenar, in Miandoab County, was detained on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, and, following his transfer to the judicial authority, was moved to Bukan Central Prison to serve a sentence of 10 years and one day of imprisonment.

According to available information, the enforcement of this sentence had not been communicated to Mansour Karbalaei prior to his detention, and he was detained by security forces, and placed into the process of serving his sentence, without having received any prior notice that the sentence was to be carried out.

Mansour Karbalaei had been sentenced, in October/November 2025, by Branch One of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Ahad Siami, on the charge of “action against national security and membership in one of the Kurdish parties opposed to the Islamic Republic of Iran,” to 10 years and one day of imprisonment.

He had also previously been detained, on June 30, 2022, by security forces, without presentation of a judicial warrant, and transferred for interrogation to the detention facility of the Orumiyeh Intelligence Department. According to published reports, Karbalaei was denied access to legal counsel and family visits during his detention, and, following the conclusion of the interrogation process and his transfer to Bukan Prison, was temporarily released on a heavy bail pending the conclusion of judicial proceedings.
