According to information received by Hana Human Rights Organization, Kamran Soltani, one of those arrested during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising in Bukan County, has been transferred to Bukan Central Prison to begin serving a five-year Ta’zir imprisonment sentence. He had been temporarily released on bail in 2025 after approximately two and a half years in detention.
According to the information received, Soltani was arrested in recent days after being summoned to and appearing before the Sentence Enforcement Branch of the Bukan Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office. He was subsequently transferred to the city’s prison to serve his sentence.
On February 27, 2023, Soltani was arrested by security forces in Bukan in connection with the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising and transferred to the Orumiyeh Intelligence Department detention facility. During his three and a half months in detention there, he was subjected to physical and psychological torture to extract forced confessions and was denied access to a lawyer and family visits. On June 10, 2023, following the completion of interrogations, he was transferred to Bukan Prison.
Soltani was charged, in a joint case with seven other individuals, with offences including “waging war against God” (moharebeh), “corruption on earth” (efsad-fil-arz), “propaganda against the state,” and “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security.” He spent more than two and a half years in pretrial detention and legal limbo at Bukan Prison. In 2025, his pretrial detention order was converted to bail, and he was temporarily released pending further proceedings.
The hearing in the case of these eight individuals was held in late February 2026 at Branch One of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court. During the proceedings, Kamran Soltani was sentenced to five years of Ta’zir imprisonment on the charge of “assembly and collusion to commit crimes against national security.”
It should be noted that, in the same case, three other individuals, identified as Mohsen Islamkhah, Mohammad Faraji, and Raouf Sheikh Maroufi, were also sentenced to death on charges of “waging war against God” (moharebeh) and “corruption on earth” (efsad-fil-arz).
