Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on Sunday, October 11, 2026, Afshin Azizi, a resident of Dizaj village in the Margavar region of Orumiyeh, was arrested to begin serving his three-year Ta’zir imprisonment sentence and transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison.
According to the information received, Azizi had previously been sentenced to three years of Ta’zir imprisonment by the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court in the summer of 2026 on the charge of “membership in one of the Kurdish parties.” The sentence was issued following a court hearing in his case.
Afshin Azizi is currently serving his sentence in the Ershad Ward of Orumiyeh Central Prison, where political and religious prisoners are held.
It should be noted that Afshin Azizi and Kaku Azizi, another resident of Dizaj village, were arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, June 24, 2025, during raids on their homes by security forces. The arrests were carried out without the presentation of a judicial warrant and involved the use of violence. Both men were subsequently transferred to one of the security detention facilities operated by the Orumiyeh Intelligence Department.
The two men were temporarily released on bail after 21 days in detention. During their detention and interrogation, they were denied access to a lawyer, family visits, and telephone contact with their families.
