Hana: On Monday, July 19, 2021, the death sentence of 2 Kurdish prisoner was carried out.
The identities of the two citizens are "Babak Aslani" and "Aroj Ali Aslan Ehsani".
According to reports received; These 2 prisoners were sentenced to retaliation for premeditated murder and their death sentence was carried out in the central prison of "Uromiah" city.
Also on Sunday, July 18, 2021, a Kurdish prisoner was executed in Isfahan prison on charges of drug trafficking, identified as Javad Karimian from Kermanshah.
Since the beginning of July 2021, at least eight Kurdish citizens have been executed in The Islamic Republic's prisons.
Iran is one of the countries where the death penalty is practiced, but due to the lack of free media and human rights organizations, there are no exact statistics on this, but according to official statistics, Iran has the highest number of executions in the world after China. It has the highest execution rate in the world relative to its population.
It should be noted that on November 17, 2020, 120 UN member states voted in favor of a resolution in the Third Committee of the General Assembly that repeatedly called for an end to the death penalty.
Iran has voted against a UN resolution calling for the abolition of the death penalty. Apart from Iran, seven other countries abstained.
"It is not surprising that governments that voted in favor of a moratorium on the death penalty are considered to be among the most serious human rights violators in the world," said Phil Robertson, Asia Deputy Human Rights Watch. "The fact that 11 Asia-Pacific governments voted against the UN resolution, and many of them are still being executed, shows that the region still has a long way to go to achieve a justice system that respects human rights."
According to Robertson, countries that voted in favor of the resolution should take immediate action to abolish the death penalty and put pressure on 39 opposing countries to abolish the death penalty.
