Death Sentence of Kaveh Rofushe Carried Out at Sanandaj Central Prison

According to information received by the Hana Organization for Human Rights, in the pre dawn hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026, the death sentence of Kaveh Rofushe, a 35 year old prisoner from Sanandaj, was carried out at the central prison of that city. He had been sentenced to death by the Sanandaj Criminal Court on a charge of “premeditated murder.”

Approximately three years ago, following a street altercation that resulted in one person’s death, Kaveh Rofushe had turned himself in to the police and was detained. He was transferred to solitary confinement at Sanandaj Prison two days before the execution to undergo the procedures preceding it.

According to information received, on the morning the sentence was carried out, a number of Sanandaj citizens and civil activists gathered outside the prison, chanting “no to execution,” in an effort to prevent the execution and secure the consent of the victim’s family for a pardon, an effort that ultimately did not result in the execution being halted.

As of the time of this report’s publication, official authorities of the Islamic Republic have not announced the carrying out of Kaveh Rofushe’s execution.
