Arman Khaleghpanah’s Fate Remains Unknown After Arrest and Wounding by Security Forces Gunfire

According to information received by HANA Human Rights Organization, 142 days into the detention of Arman Khaleghpanah, a 34-year-old citizen from Saqqez, nothing is yet known about his whereabouts, physical condition, or fate.

Khaleghpanah was shot and seriously wounded in the leg by Arman Khaleghpanah on March 8, 2026, on the Saqqez-Baneh road near the Mameshah area, at the same time as the arrest of Sheikh Zahed Shahabi. Security forces took him to an undisclosed location after his arrest, and he has had no contact or visits with his family since.

Sources close to HANA say the family’s repeated efforts to learn about his whereabouts, medical condition, and case have led nowhere, with security and judicial authorities refusing to respond at all.

HANA Human Rights Organization stresses that holding a wounded person incommunicado for this long, while denying his family any information about his condition, is a flagrant violation of a detainee’s fundamental rights. Legally, full responsibility for Arman Khaleghpanah’s life, health, medical care, and safety rests with the security and judicial authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
