A Kurdish Tradesman Killed by Direct Fire from Islamic Republic Forces at the Sardasht Border

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Qazi Kavani, a Kurdish tradesman from the village of Doletu in Sardasht County, succumbed to his severe injuries on the evening of Sunday, May 24, 2026. He had been critically wounded a few days prior by direct fire from the armed forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran at the Jasoosan border strip.

According to Hana’s sources, the armed forces of the Islamic Republic opened fire on this Kurdish tradesman without any prior warning and in complete violation of legal protocols, resulting in a devastating gunshot wound to the head. Despite being transferred to a medical facility in Mahabad and receiving intensive medical care for several days, he tragically lost his life due to the severity of his wounds.

Expressing profound outrage and concern over the relentless and lethal use of firearms against Kurdish tradesmen, the Hana Human Rights Organization emphasizes that Islamic Republic forces in border regions continue to systematically target Kurdish citizens struggling to make a living through Kolbari (cross-border labor). Operating under the guise of combating smuggling and backed by the orders of security and judicial institutions, these forces repeatedly open direct fire with total disregard for the principles of necessity, proportionality, and the legal constraints on the use of lethal force. This ruthless practice constitutes a blatant violation of the fundamental right to life and stands in stark defiance of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s international human rights obligations.
