Two political prisoners have been executed on charges of “baghi” (armed rebellion) due to alleged membership in the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran

At dawn on Saturday, 4 April 2026, the death sentences of two political prisoners—Abolhassan Montazer (66, holding a bachelor’s degree in architecture) and Vahid Bani Amerian (33, holding a master’s degree in management)—were carried out in Ghezel Hesar Prison in Karaj.

The two had previously been sentenced to death on charges of “baghi” (armed rebellion) in connection with alleged membership in and cooperation with the People’s Mojahedin Organization of Iran. According to reports, they were executed without prior notice and were denied a final meeting with their families.

Iran’s judiciary stated that the individuals were involved in a case related to “operational activities,” including the preparation and use of a launcher and participation in operations in Tehran, and that they were arrested while attempting to carry out such actions. It was also claimed that Montazer had a leading role in the case, while Bani Amerian was part of the associated organizational network.

According to available information, Abolhassan Montazer had previously been a political prisoner in the 1980s and was arrested multiple times in 2018, 2020, and most recently in January 2024. Vahid Bani Amerian had also been arrested several times since 2017, spending a total of around four years in prison, with his latest arrest occurring in January 2024.

These two individuals are the sixth to be executed in recent days in connection with this case.
