Soran Mahmoudi Arbitrarily Arrested by Intelligence Office Forces in Piranshahr

According to information received by the Hana Organization for Human Rights, Soran Mahmoudi, son of Khaled and a citizen from Piranshahr, was detained by forces of the Intelligence Department, without presentation of a judicial warrant, in the early hours of Sunday, August 23, 2026, and transferred to an undisclosed location.

According to information received, Soran Mahmoudi has had no contact with his family since the time of his detention, and efforts to learn of his condition and whereabouts have proven fruitless. As of the time of this report’s publication, no information is available regarding the reasons for his detention, the possible charges against him, or the judicial authority handling his case.

This citizen had previously faced a security case as well. Following his detention in 2023 and transfer to Naqadeh Prison, he was temporarily released on bail of three billion tomans. In the course of the subsequent judicial proceedings, Branch One of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Dousti, sentenced him in April-May 2024 to three years’ imprisonment on the charge of “membership and cooperation with one of the Kurdish opposition parties of the Islamic Republic.”
