January Protests / Mostafa Lotfi killed following gunfire by repressive forces in Tehran

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, 8 January 2026, a Kurdish citizen identified as Mostafa Lotfi, 35 years old, married and the father of a young child, from Kermanshah Province, was killed during popular protests in Tehran as a result of direct gunfire with live ammunition by the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the reports, security agencies pressured his family, as a condition for handing over his body, to claim that he had been killed by “the people” and to present him as a so-called “state martyr.” This pressure was met with the family’s explicit refusal.

Further reports indicate that Mostafa Lotfi’s body was buried on 12 January 2026 at the cemetery of Ahmadabad village, in Sanqor County, Kermanshah Province.
