January protests / Ahmad Niazi killed following direct fire by security forces in Mashhad

Based on reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, a Kurdish citizen identified as Ahmad Niazi—a 47-year-old bodybuilding champion, sports club manager, and resident of the village of Jowzan in Quchan—was killed in Mashhad during public protests.

He succumbed to gunshot wounds inflicted by security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which struck the back of his head and his leg. Ahmad Niazi was married and the father of two children.
