Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on the evening of Friday, January 9, 2026, a 19-year-old Kurdish youth identified as Ali Abasi, son of Shirin and Fereydon, from Gilan-e Gharb County, was killed in Tehran during popular protests after being directly shot by the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to an informed source, he lost his life after being struck by live ammunition, and his body was handed over to his family only after an unclear process accompanied by severe security pressure and the payment of 700 million tomans.
It should be noted that Ali Abasi’s body was buried on Friday, January 16, 2026, in awalyar village, Gilan-e Gharb County, under a heavy security atmosphere and close supervision by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, plainclothes forces, and intelligence agents.
Hana Human Rights Organization considers the above cases to constitute a serious violation of the fundamental right to life, including the use of live ammunition against protesters, lack of transparency in the process of medical treatment, death and handling of the victim’s body, the exertion of security pressure on the family, restrictions imposed on the burial ceremony, and the absence of any accountability, independent investigation, or fair judicial process. The organization emphasizes that responsibility for investigation and final accountability in this case lies with the authorities of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
