Erfan Kakaei, a 50-year-old resident of Javanrud, was killed on 20 November 2022 during the nationwide protests sparked by the state killing of Jina (Mahsa) Amini. He was fatally shot in the abdomen with live ammunition fired directly by the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
His funeral was held on 21 November 2022 at the “Haj Ebrahim” cemetery in Javanrud, with nearly one thousand people in attendance. Participants chanted protest slogans throughout the ceremony.
It should be noted that during Erfan Kakaei’s funeral, security forces of the Islamic Republic opened fire on the crowd, targeting people with DShK heavy machine-gun rounds.
