Hana’s concern over the rising number of youth suicides in Kurdish cities

According to research by the Hana Human Rights Organization, in less than three weeks at least eight Kurdish youths in various cities and villages have taken their own lives.

Among them are Ramin Hasani and Behzad Karimi from Mahabad, Elaheh Rouhi from Sanandaj, Arina Rahmani from Kermanshah, Pouya Ghobadi from Harsin, and Majid Garavand from Kuhdasht, all of whom ended their lives in recent weeks.

In the most recent cases of suicide, on Thursday, September 4, 2025, Sara Barqiyani, daughter of Ali and a resident of Kohneh-Lahijan village in Piranshahr, and on Saturday, August 23, 2025, Suleiman Khezri, son of Mohammad Amin and a resident of Amirabad in Bukan, ended their lives.

According to information gathered by Hana, the main contributing factors behind these suicides include severe economic hardship and growing poverty, forced marriages, gender discrimination, and the lack of legal protection for women and youth.
