According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization: On Friday, August 9, 2024, a 21-year-old young man identified as “Ali Ghaderi” from the village of “Qalanjeh” in the Ravenser district committed suicide due to social issues, particularly compulsory military service, and ended his life.
The military conscription system in the Islamic Republic of Iran is mandatory for men over the age of 18. Without a military service completion card, citizens are deprived of basic documents and services, such as a passport, business licenses, or the ability to work in government offices.
Given the unstable economic situation, lack of jobs and job security, low standard of living, and lack of hope for the future, numerous psychological and emotional problems have become deeply entrenched in society. Every day, we witness collective protests, civil disobedience, and particularly, an increasing number of suicides in Kurdistan and other cities within the political geography of Iran.
