According to the report of the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRC) Saber Shaykh Abdullah and Diako Rasoulzadeh, two Iranian Kurdish political prisoners who sentenced to death at the Urmia Central Prison were executed on July 13, 2020. The two political prisoners were executed hours after Amnesty International called on Iranian authorities to “immediately” suspend the executions.
Saber Sheikh Abdullah and Diako Rasoulzadeh were accused of membership with the Komala Party of Iranian Kurdistan. The two prisoners were arrested by security forces at their homes in Mahabad in March 2014. They were later transferred to the Intelligence Detention Centre in Urmia. They were pressured and heavily tortured during this period at the Intelligence Detention Centre.
Tens of thousands of political prisoners are jailed in Iran over various charges including advocating for democracy and promoting women’s or workers’ rights.
