In memorial of the execution of 59 young Kurds in Mahabad

Executing 59 Kurdish youth by Islamic Republic of Iran

On June 2, 1983, the Mahabad governor's office announced in a statement that 59 young people in the city had been executed. Hamid Reza Jalaeipour was the governor of Mahabad at the time. Most of the youths were arrested in the first two months of the year.
Jalaeipour, in coordination with Hamzeh's camp, as well as then-Minister Nategh Nouri, ordered a severe crackdown on political dissent. Then, 59 Kurdish youths arrested in Mahabad were transferred to Tabriz, and during a few minutes in a court in Tabriz, all of them were sentenced to death and executed.
Execution is one of the most heinous tools of the Iranian rulers to suppress political dissent and continues to be so.
