Islamic Republic of Iran Executes Another Protester: Siavash Jamshidi Kheyrabadi Hanged

According to the official announcement by the Judiciary’s news outlet, the death sentence of Siavash Jamshidi Kheyrabadi, a detainee from the January 2026 protests in Shahrekord, was executed on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

According to published information, he was arrested in connection with the January 8 protests and was prosecuted under charges including “Moharebeh through drawing a firearm and firing it” and “assembly and collusion against national security,” ultimately being sentenced to death.

Despite the announcement of the execution, no independent or transparent information has been published regarding the interrogation process, Siavash Jamshidi Kheyrabadi’s access to a lawyer of his choice, the evidence cited by the court, or the extent to which his defense rights were respected. In a case leading to the deprivation of the right to life, any restriction on effective access to legal counsel and a lack of transparency in judicial proceedings raise serious questions regarding compliance with fundamental fair trial guarantees.

Based on published statistics, with the execution of this sentence, the number of individuals executed in connection with the January protests since March 18, 2026, has reached at least 32. During this same period, two detainees associated with the “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests have also been executed.

The Hana Human Rights Organization views the continued issuance and execution of death sentences in cases related to protests as a grave violation of the right to life and a source of deep concern regarding the use of capital punishment in political and security cases. Carrying out the death penalty under conditions where ambiguities exist regarding the independence of the proceedings, effective access to legal representation, and full adherence to defense rights conflicts with the international obligations of the Islamic Republic of Iran concerning the right to life and fair trial standards.

Hana calls for an immediate halt to the execution of death sentences in cases related to protests, the full disclosure of information regarding judicial proceedings, and guaranteed effective access for all defendants to independent legal counsel and defense rights in line with international human rights standards.
