Sam Sohbatzadeh a 14-year-old child was killed in Tehran during the January protests after being shot by security forces

Based on reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, 8 January 2026, Sam Sohbatzadeh, a 14-year-old Kurdish-Kurmanji child from Khalkhal County in Ardebil Province and resident of Tehran, was killed during the Tehran protests after being shot directly by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to received information, Sam Sohbatzadeh’s body was buried on 10 January 2026 in the cemetery of Lenbar village, Khalkhal County.

The Hana Human Rights Organization emphasizes that the use of live ammunition against civilians, especially children, constitutes a blatant violation of human rights and the international obligations of the Islamic Republic of Iran, including the Convention on the Rights of the Child, and calls for independent, transparent investigations and accountability for those responsible and the perpetrators of this act.
