Rising concerns over the execution of Yousef Ahmadi following the transfer of his case to the execution authorities

Based on reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, a Kurdish political prisoner named Yousef Ahmadi, from Baneh and held in Sanandaj Central Prison, was transferred to the prison’s execution ward—an action that has significantly increased the risk of his imminent execution in the coming days.

It should be noted that Yousef Ahmadi has spent the past five years in detention without a single day of leave.

Additionally, on January 8, 2026, this Kurdish political prisoner, along with eight other political prisoners in Sanandaj Central Prison, went on a strike during the public protests in Kurdistan, in protest against the killing of citizens by the government’s repressive forces in Lorestan, Kermanshah, and illam provinces, and in solidarity with the protesting people of Iran.
