Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani a political prisoner sentenced to death was transferred to Ward 6 of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad

The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on Sunday, 7 December 2025, Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani, a 30-year-old political prisoner sentenced to death, was transferred from Ward 3 of Vakilabad Prison in Mashhad to Ward 6 of the same prison.

Babak Paknia, the lawyer representing this political prisoner, confirmed the news and stated that Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani has been transferred to Ward 6 of Vakilabad Prison.

According to reports received, the death sentence against this political prisoner—previously overturned twice by the Supreme Court—was upheld in recent months by Branch 9 of the Supreme Court. This comes despite the fact that in late September 2024, Branch 3 of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death for the third time on charges of “corruption on earth” (efsad-e fel-arz).

Mohammad Javad Vafaei Sani, a boxing coach, was arrested by security forces in Mashhad in March 2020 and subsequently transferred to Vakilabad Prison in the city.

It should be noted that the first death sentence against this political prisoner, issued by the Mashhad Revolutionary Court on charges of “corruption on earth through deliberate destruction,” was overturned by the Supreme Court during its initial review, and the case was referred to a parallel branch. However, he was again sentenced to death in a second trial. This verdict was once more overturned by the Supreme Court in June 2024. Despite these over turnings, Branch 9 of the Supreme Court ultimately upheld the third death sentence.
