Mamostā Mohammad Khezrnejad has been transferred to the hospital for surgery

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Mamostā Mohammad Khezrnejad, a Kurdish Sunni cleric and one of those arrested during the nationwide “Woman, Life, Freedom” protests, has been transferred and admitted to Towhid Hospital in Sanandaj due to a deterioration in his health and the need for several surgical procedures.

According to Hana’s sources, on Saturday, 29 November 2025, Mamostā Khezrnejad was granted a one-month medical leave based on the diagnosis of specialist physicians and the approval of the Forensic Medicine Organization and the authorities of Sanandaj Prison.

The source added that on Sunday, 30 November 2025, he was admitted to Towhid Hospital in Sanandaj for pre-operative examinations and an urgent assessment of his medical condition.

According to this report, Mamostā Khezrnejad suffers from severe gastrointestinal problems, a lumbar disc condition, and heart failure, and is in urgent need of specialized medical treatment.

Mamostā Mohammad Khezrnejad was arrested in November 2022 after delivering a critical speech at the funeral of one of those killed during the “Woman, Life, Freedom” uprising in Bukan. He was taken to the IRGC Intelligence detention center and later transferred to Orumiyeh Prison. After 14 months of detention and interrogation, he was sentenced by the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court to death and 16 years in prison. Following widespread objections and a request for retrial, the sentence was reduced to 25 years in prison by the appeals court.

It should be noted that last year, after several days on hunger strike, Mamostā Khezrnejad was transferred from Orumiyeh Prison to Sanandaj Prison.
