Hana Human Rights Organization’s Report on Its Participation in the 18th Session of the United Nations Forum on Minority Issues in Geneva

The 18th session of the Forum on Minority Issues was held on 27–28 November 2025 at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, with the participation of governments, international bodies, and civil society organizations.
The session emphasized the role of minorities in strengthening social cohesion, contributing to governance, and advancing sustainable peace. Participants highlighted the need to reform discriminatory laws, ensure equality in policymaking, protect cultural and linguistic rights, and secure the meaningful participation of minorities in peace processes and transitional justice mechanisms.

Other key topics addressed by the Forum included combating hate speech in the media, promoting multicultural education, and enhancing global cooperation to protect the rights of minorities.

On the sidelines of the session, a number of Kurdish human rights organizations held a joint meeting, stressing the importance of greater coordination among Kurdish civil society groups to ensure effective participation in UN forums. Representatives of the Hana Human Rights Organization also took part in this meeting, sharing their perspectives and expressing the organization’s readiness for continued cooperation.

This year, the Hana Human Rights Organization participated in the session with two representatives—Mr. Voria Mohammadian and Mr. Fazel Valian—and submitted a comprehensive legal statement to the Forum’s Secretariat.
Hana’s participation is part of the organization’s ongoing efforts to advocate for the rights of minorities, particularly in Kurdistan.
