According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, Ata Golnazi, a baker in the city of Saqqez, was arrested by security forces following a collective strike by local bakers.
Sources told Hana that Mr. Golnazi was summoned by the Public Places Office of Saqqez and was arrested after appearing at the office.
The striking bakers’ main demands include: an increase in bread prices in line with production costs, a resolution to frequent power outages, and addressing the sharp rise in bakery rental fees.
The protesting bakers have stated that, due to the unprecedented rise in operating costs and the continued neglect by responsible authorities, they had no choice but to shut down their bakeries and launch a widespread strike.
