According to received reports, in recent days, Mashallah Karami, the father of Mohammad Mehdi Karami, an executed protester of the Zhina revolutionary movement, has been sentenced by Branch 2 of the Karaj Revolutionary Court to five years in prison for “assembly and collusion with the intent to commit a crime against national security” and one year in prison for “propaganda against the regime.”
At the end of February of last year, Mr. Sharifzadeh Ardakani, Mr. Karami's lawyer, had announced that four charges were listed in his client’s indictment. Two charges were referred to the Karaj court for review: charges under Article 500 for "propaganda activities against the regime" and Article 610 for "assembly and collusion with the intent to commit a crime against national security." Additionally, charges under Article 2 of the Intensification Law for "illicit acquisition of property" and Article 9 of the Anti-Money Laundering Law would be reviewed in the Second Criminal Court of Nazarabad County.
Mashallah Karami, the father of Mohammad Mehdi Karami, an executed protester of the Zhina revolutionary movement, was arrested by security forces on Tuesday, August 22, 2023. He was then transferred from the Information Detention Center to the Central Prison of Karaj on October 28 of the same year. After three months of detention in quarantine, he was moved to Ward 15 of this prison.
It is worth recalling that Mohammad Mehdi Karami, a 22-year-old protester from Bijar living in Karaj, was arrested during the Zhina revolutionary movement. He was later sentenced to death for the alleged murder of a Basij soldier named Rouhollah Ajamian and was executed on January 7, 2024, in the Central Prison of Karaj.
